Mícheál Ó Domhnaill — Creative Perspective

Mícheál Ó Domhnaill

Mícheál Ó Domhnaill is originally from the Ring Gaeltacht in Waterford but now lives in Sligo. He is well-know as the voice of sport on national broadcaster TG4. He presents most of the sports programmes on the station, including TG4’s live coverage of Gaelic football and hurling, and he has also presented the channel's rugby and horse racing coverage.

Mícheál produces corporate video material for organisations such as Fáilte Ireland, Sligo County Council, and Abbott Pharmaceutical in Sligo. Mícheál’s love of culture and technology led to his forming in 2009.  Live is a live web streaming company specialising in the online broadcast of Irish Music and Cultural events with a substantial and ever growing fan base in over 50 countries.

In this 4CNW Business Innovation Challenge Mícheál was paired with Creative Producer Tara McGowan to answer Ireland West Airport Knock's Innovation Challenge. IWA serves 25 international destinations and its call sought creative ways in which a small company could attract tourists and promote the region.

Mícheál & Tara responded by curating a live traditional music event from The Dock, Carrick On Shannon, which was streamed live and which showcased musicians and locations in Co Leitrim. The event’s dedicated website and social media campaign promoted the region’s cultural offering in targeted European destination such as the U.K., Italy & Germany.  Audiences not only were able to view the performance but interact with the show, exchange messages, and heard about upcoming tourism events and flight access.

The project was a runaway success and a further 8 live events are planned for 2013. Watch here.
